Throughout history shields have acquired great importance due to their symbolic nature as not only a craft object, but also as a representation of a social construction with implicit values and ideas and purposes of a particular group and made explicit by many relationships of words, figures and symbols in the same way as the owl was the emblem to signify attributes of the goddess Athena in ancient times and later became the symbol of wisdom, the shields produced by each of the grades, look to enhance group identity through work with values.

"Shield", the name of the activity, was developed by students from preschool through high school. First, the values were socialized in group workshops where all students from each grade participated from drawings and stories to discussion and round tables. And finally, amid the festivities, a parade was held which was part of Cervantes and is the most representative of his work, each group presented its shield to the educational community as a whole.

This activity opened new areas of integration and team work, translating ideas into symbols and icons of knowledge and the students' speeches about human values and thus strengthened the institutional identity.
